pervasive media studio

Calvium | Studio Resident

Calvium is a startup who make tools to enable others to build exciting new mobile apps based on sensors and context.

The five-strong team behind Calvium previously worked on sensor-based mobile application tools and experiences at Hewlett-Packard Research Labs in Bristol, and were the original creators of the mscape toolkit.   Calvium are working with the iShed on a TSB-funded project to create a set of tools that allow creative but not necessarily technical people to create rich media experiences for mobile devices such as the Apple iPhone using sensors such as GPS, accelerometer, and the camera.

Calvium are involved in a series of other projects each of which will use, develop, and extend the tool set:

  • A project to create a location-based game for the Tower of London, in collaboration with Historic Royal Palaces.
  • An indoor digital theatrical experience in collaboration with Bristol Old Vic
  • An experience based around the new Bristol Museum in partnership with Aardman Animation.
  • 'Joined up Britain' - A TSB-funded feasibility study exploring a service for content creation, management and publishing of location-based media delivering personalised information and entertainment at the point of need.

Calvium consultancy also offers guidance on the benefits of location and context-based services to companies. Come and find us in the studio.
