Multi-sensory environments provide therapeutic stimulation via touch, sight, hearing, smell and taste. At present the technology is expensive and only available within specialist centres. Can Cyber-therapy use existing technologies in new ways, to provide meaningful experiences? Can more affordable solutions be offered to specialist centres? Can the health of children with learning and physical disabilities be further improved?
This project will enable development of a new software HMC are calling Cyber-therapy. It will use mixed-media to benefit children with learning and physical disabilities, though stimulation via sensors, light, sound and other digital media. Using the software, children will relax, explore and control their individual experience. The project will also investigate whether providing therapy through interactive technologies, delivers measurable goals that can be evaluated by digital means.
