How can musicians and record labels utilise social interest around short-form anonymous communications (such as sms, msn, twitter), to create compelling and humorous campaigns?
Inspired by the Dizzee Rascal duet with Lilly Allen ‘wanna be a gansta’ the Dis Generator will be a fully interactive, cross media promotion tool, utilising user generated content, ruffling some feathers and giving music fans an enjoyable experience.
The concept is simple. Fans send in a short message dis via sms/msn/aol/skype/i-chat/twitter. The dis is received by the “Dissie” Rascal database, which fires back a random dis sent in by another fan. Each time you send in your dis via either text or instant message you receive another back. By adding ‘Golden Disses’ into the mix, fans will have the chance to receive messages written by their favourite artists.
Could this model become a powerful, innovative campaign tool? How can potential text abuse be minimised? Could bespoke services such as brand friendly messaging, ‘mistakes I’ve made’, ‘wishes’ ‘things that irritate’; and affiliation with specific artists or bands create engaging campaigns?
