Our regular blogger Hannah is away this week, so this week's news was brought to you by Vivi and Holly.

REACT pump priming fund project:

The Nth Screen is one of REACT's strategic fund projects in development. It is being developed by Studio residents Tim Kindberg and Charlotte Crofts with Hazel Grian:
“What happens when we reimagine film for groups? By turning a group of mobile phones and tablet computers into a set of co-ordinated screens for watching multi-segment films the collaboration will explore how film viewing becomes social and communal, building upon the desire to be together, whether in public, at the dining table or in front of the TV.”
For more info see http://www.react-hub.org.uk/the-nth-screen/
In next Friday’s lunch talk they will be talking about their Nth Screen workshop and sharing their findings so far about this emerging format. The talk is on the 31st of May.

Tim Kindberg

Tim Kindberg is running a new game this coming weekend in Copenhagen at the Play Festival
http://w00t.dk/en/scanner-darkly/
“A Scanner Darkly is a game of stealth played across the radio and physical worlds. The Radios need to work together to crack the code without giving away their own identities. The Scanners are tracking them down one by one. Who will triumph? Bring your smartphone and be ready to blend into the crowd.”

Will Luton

Will has published a new article for the Games Industry website, “How I Stopped Worrying and Learned To Love The Microconsole”
“Up to only twelve months ago, creating consoles was seemingly the preserve of the richest of the mega corporations. The notion that some upstart could come along and crowdsource cash on nothing but a video and a promise has gone from absurd to laughably mundane...”

Lunchtime Talk: Over to You

Friday, 24 May 2013 1:00pm - 2:00pm

This week we are handing the lunchtime talk over to our audience. This is a chance for our visitors to share their projects and ideas with us and with the lunchtime talk audience to get some support, feedback and inspiration.
We will adopt an informal, open mic format and anyone is welcome to contribute, or just to come along and hear from some interesting people.

There will be information from some of the Studio residents about what they are currently working on and plenty of space for attendees to tell us about things that we don't know about yet.  We imagine each person will contribute their ideas for about 5 mins and then open it out to discussion or questions and ideas.

Good for Food: Good for Nothing 48 hour social innovation hackathon:

Good for Nothing is a community of thinkers, do-ers, makers and tinkerers applying their skills and energy to accelerate the work of cause-led innovators and change makers.

We at the Studio are happy to be hosting the second Bristol Good for Nothing hackathon taking the very Bristol theme of doing good with food. If you know something about design, coding, thinking, making or doing in some way and you like the idea of donating your super-skills to some great local ventures, this your chance to do something good for nothing and to meet loads of awesome people doing the same.

Good for Food has already announced that it will be supporting:
•    The Severn Project - a drug and alcohol recovery programme offering education, training and employment through their community farm project in Keynsham
•    Fareshare SW/ Feeding the 5000 - Fareshare work with the food industry to minimise fit-for-purpose fresh, frozen and long-life food going to waste, and send this food into organisations working with the most vulnerable people in the community.
